SAT(R) Test

Starting March 2023, the SAT in countries other than the U.S. has gone degital.
Agos Japan's SAT preparation classes are designed for the new format test.

The SAT(R) is a standardized test for persons desiring to enter universities in the U.S. It consists of a Reasoning Test including Reading (formerly Critical Reading) and Writing and Language (formerly Writing), Mathematics and optional Essay. It is also composed of Subject Tests including history, physics, biology, chemistry and so forth, which test academic achievement. Since the English language problems on the Reasoning Test are designed for American high school students, they are significantly more difficult than those on the TOEFL(R)TEST, and it is quite difficult for foreign students to achieve high scores. In addition, the Subject Tests are based on the content of high school instruction and, therefore, those who do not attend English-speaking schools will probably encounter difficulties. Given these implications, there are universities that exempt foreign students from the SAT(R).

Note: “No Penalty for Wrong Answers”
In the past, the SAT gave a point for each correct answer and took away a quarter of a point for each incorrect answer to a multiple-choice question. The deduction to eliminate the penalty for wrong answers was made to encourage you to try your best on all questions, even ones you are not sure of the answer to.

Number of Times the Test can be Taken

You can take the test as many times as you wish. However, be sure to understand whether any institution to which you wish to apply has any special score submission requirements.

Score Expiration

SAT(R) scores do not expire. However, official score reports sent to instutitions that contain SAT(R) scores which are five years old or older include a message explaining that older scores may be less valid predictors of academic performance than more recent scores.

Overview of Each Section

Reading

When you take the Reading Test, you’ll read passages and interpret informational graphics. Then you’ll use what you’ve read to answer questions.

Some questions ask you to locate a piece of information or an idea stated directly. But you’ll also need to understand what the author’s words imply. In other words, you have to read between the lines.

Writing and Language

To answer some questions, you’ll need to look closely at a single sentence. Others require reading the entire piece and interpreting a graphic. For instance, you might be asked to choose a sentence that corrects a misinterpretation of a scientific chart or that better explains the importance of the data.
The passages you improve will range from arguments to nonfiction narratives and will be about careers, history, social studies, the humanities, and science.

Mathematics

Most math questions will be multiple choice, but some ? called grid-ins ? ask you to come up with the answer rather than select the answer. Some parts of the test include several questions about a single scenario. The Math Test is divided into two portions: Math Test ? Calculator and Math Test - No Calculator.

Test fees
