Jumet came to Tokyo in 1987 and is on her fourth season with AGOS, having helped numerous clients gain admission to top-tier MBA programs. Jumet started her career as a foreign currency trader with The First National Bank of Chicago followed by a middle office/finance function with Bear Stearns and subsequently with JPMorgan Securities Japan in the Securitized Product area. Prior to joining JPMorgan Securities, Jumet was in Bilingual Communications with Mizuho Securities Co., Ltd., and NSK Ltd., a Japanese automotive parts manufacturer, responsible for writing for a range of projects, from English version offering materials on potential divestitures and technical manuals to speeches for corporate bilingual meetings. Her professional experience spans a variety of industries and roles and puts her in a unique position of having experienced different management styles and environments.Jumet received her B.A. in Economics and Statistics from the University of Chicago and her M.B.A. from University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I was born and raised in the Philippines and have been in Japan for the last twenty-five years. I started out as a pure science major at the University of Chicago but graduated with degrees in Economics and Statistics. I subsequently went on to the business school at the University of Chicago where I majored in International Finance. My professional career covers quite a range of roles. I started my career as a Foreign Exchange dealer with The First National Bank of Chicago. I subsequently worked for Mizuho Securities Co. Ltd and NSK Ltd., in corporate bilingual communications. Following these, I took up a middle office/finance position with Bear Stearns Japan and after the merger, with JPMorgan Securities Japan in Securitized Products.

Why did you decide to come to Japan and what has your experience been like so far?

I was very interested in Japanese and Japanese culture. After graduating from the University of Chicago, I spent a summer studying the language at International Christian University and decided I would create an opportunity to return. My experience has been one of continual learning. Over the twenty-five years, I have worked in a variety of roles, all while raising two children in Japan. I do feel I have had the unique opportunity to experience different work environments and management styles. Nevertheless, my Japan experience is still very much a work in process.

What do you like best about your work?

It is a great opportunity to meet candidates of different backgrounds and very rewarding to be able to help them achieve their goals, consistent with their capabilities, interests and educational background.

How would you describe your admissions consulting style?

My style is one of collaboration. We will work together to discuss how you can strengthen the content in your essays so that they meet the standards of admissions committees while playing to your assets.

What advice do you have for students who decide to work with you?

The application process is long and stressful with the applicant doing the heavy lifting. However, we will work as a team. With equal doses of commitment and dedication, you have the opportunity to submit a strong application, one that develops your personal narrative, highlighting your individual strengths and achievements.

Any final comments?

From personal experience, I found the graduate school process stressful, time consuming - requiring a lot of time, energy and financial resources. However, I feel that starting early and with careful planning, the process can be kept from becoming overwhelming.
