LLM出願書類提出前のチェックポイント

いよいよ11月も中盤を過ぎ、12月の出願に向けて準備を進める受験生はラストスパートに入っていると思います。そこで、本日はその出願用書類の提出前に心がけておきたいチェックポイントを説明します。

◉ CV / Resumeに関するチェックポイント
1) 卒業年：成績表（Transcript/LSAC Evaluation Report）に記載されている卒業年と一致していますか？
2) 通貨表記：アメリカのロークスクールへ出願するにも関わらず、CV / ResumeにはYenと記載しているケースがあります。
3) 金額の計算：従来の金額よりゼロが不足していることはありませんか？
4) 在職・在籍期間：誤って記載することで、不要なキャリア上の空白期間が（書面上において）生じてしまいます。
5) フォントの種類：Times New Romanで統一されている思いきや、異なるフォントが入り交ざっている場合があります。また、フォントの種類に加え、フォントサイズや行間設定も統一してください。
6) アメリカ英語とイギリス英語：両言語に関するスペルの違い（例：Organization/Organisation）にはご注意ください。

◉ Personal Statementに関するチェックポイント
1) 出願校名
2) プログラム名
3) Certificate名
4) 科目名
5) 教授の名前
6) 卒業生の名前/卒業生の名前
7) 字数制限：character（文字数）とword（単語数）の違いにご注意ください。
8) スペルや文法の誤植にもご注意ください。
9) 設問で問われている内容を網羅しているかご確認ください。

準備時間の制約はあると思いますが、出願書類のクオリティーをより高めるべく最後まで頑張ってください。

Essay 1: How do you plan to use the Wharton MBA program to help you achieve your future professional goals? You might consider your past experience, short and long-term goals, and resources available at Wharton. (500 words)

Essay 2: Essay 2: Taking into consideration your background – personal, professional, and/or academic – how do you plan to make specific, meaningful contributions to the Wharton community? (400 words)

Required Essay for all Reapplicants: Please use this space to share with the Admissions Committee how you have reflected and grown since your previous application and discuss any relevant updates to your candidacy (e.g., changes in your professional life, additional coursework, and extracurricular/volunteer engagements). Georgetown LL.M.の出願締め切り日11/15 (Early Action), 2023/2/3 (Regular Deadline)が発表になりました。

Personal Statement

All applicants must submit a detailed “personal statement” (a.k.a. motivation letter) describing your background, goals, and reasons for applying to Georgetown and your chosen program. You should include any information that you feel will assist the Graduate Admissions Committee in its decision. This information should provide the admissions committee with more depth than is available in your transcripts and resume alone regarding your fit for the program and school.
While there are no specific formatting requirements the personal statement should only be 1-2 pages (single spaced) or 2-3 pages (double spaced).

Personal Statementを書き始めるにあたり、フォーマット（フォントサイズや余白の長さを含））にも注意を払いましょう。各校で指定されるフォーマット内容が異なるケースもあります。

Georgetownの場合は、長さ：1-2 pages (single spaced) or 2-3 pages (double spaced)と指定されています。Double spaced・3 pagesという条件の元では、約1,000 wordsを使うことが可能です。

また、New York University, University of Pennsylvaniaの出願締め切り日も相次いで発表されました。

9月からPersonal Statementの執筆に取り組むために、Resume の作成を通して自分の強み（アピールポイント）は整理できていますか？このレジュメをもとにPersonal statementやLetter of recommendationで言及する実例を選定しましょう。

Personal Statement (Stanford LL.M.):2-3 pages

パーソナルステートメントに着手する前に、まずは以下の項目に対して該当する内容を書き纏めてみましょう。

1) Experience in legal practice
2) Interest in LL.M. in the applicable specialization
3) Post LL.M. goals
4) How the Stanford LL.M. program could benefit your career progress

その纏めたコンテンツを所定のページ数で収めるためにも、アウトラインや段落ごとの字数も考えなければなりません。

 Two letters of recommendation (Stanford LL.M.)

It is suggested that LLM applicants obtain one letter from someone familiar with their work in legal practice (or related professional experience) and one letter from someone familiar with their academic work. At least one letter should be from someone with whom the applicant has worked who can address the applicant’s English-language proficiency.

2023年入学用：UC Berkeley LL.M.出願締切日　発表

UC Berkeley LL.M. (Traditional Track含)の出願締切日12/18が発表になりました。

今月末から来月の初旬にかけて、その他のプログラムにおいても出願要綱が続々と発表されます。それに伴い、各校の学校説明会、さらにはLSAC主催のLL.M.出願関連イベントが開催されるようになります。

出願締切日から逆算してタスクを整理しましょう

この先の書類準備を円滑に進めるためには、今月８月末までにはレジュメを仕上げることをお勧めします。そして9月からパーソナルステートメントの執筆へ注力できるように計画を図ることで、心理面にも余裕が生まれ、よりクオリティーの高い書類へと仕上げるため推敲用の時間も確保できるようになります。また、必要に応じてテストスコアの底上げにも時間を充てることができます。

LLM 2022年入学むけ入試の総括-2023 LLM入学を目指す方へのアドバイス-

本日は2021年度のLLM出願状況を振り返ってみたいと思います。本日は下記の２点に絞ってお話しいたします。

■　テストスコア追求の重要性　-最後まであきらめない姿勢の重要性-
まず、総体的に出願者のTOEFL/IELTSスコアに対する要求度合が高まった印象を受けました。一例として、TOEFL 102-103点、そしてスピーキングスコアが21から22点で合格ラインに達していると見込まれていたプログラムへ出願された方が、例年以上にウェイトリスト通知を受領していたと感じました。
この状況の中で、出願後も定期的にテスト受験を継続し、積極的にスコアの差し替えをアドミッション側へ依頼することでよい結果につながったケースもありました。出願後に再びテストを受験することは受験生にとって負荷がかかるものですが、できることに真摯に取り組むことで繰上合格を目指す最後まであきらめない姿勢も重要です。

■ 進学希望理由の具体化の重要性
LLM出願においては、出願者は”T-14”※と呼ばれるトップスクールグループの中で自分が高めたい法律領域の専門教育を提供するプログラムを選定していく傾向が強いため、トップスクールであるほど競争率が激化する傾向にあります。
そうした中で、自分と他者の差別化をどう図るためには、過去の学業/職務実績に加えて、パーソナルステートメントを通じて明確な進学希望理由を述べることが重要です。印象的な合格者の方の例として、オンライン学校説明会への参加にとどまらず、在校生、卒業生からの学校の様子を調査しすることで出願先のプログラムが自身の卒業後のキャリア形成に不可欠であることを説明することで、第一志望校の合格を勝ち取られていました。一方で、上位校へ合格した方がランキングでは下の学校に不合格やウェイトリスト通知を受領するケースもありました。

入学審査においては出願者のキャリアバックグランドに対する評価に違いがあること、そして教授陣の意見も反映し同じ学年のクラスを編成する上での他の出願者のバックグラウンドを考慮していることが読み取れます。だからこそ、一人ひとりにとっても明確な出願理由を伝えることが重要なのです。

本日の解説は一例であり、異なるバックグラウンドを持つ出願者の数だけ出願事例は存在します。各自の状況にあわせた出願準備を行うことが重要です。

Columbia MBA Admission Deadlines & Essays for 2022-2023

Columbia MBA（CBS）が応募要項を発表しました。M7プログラムの中でCBSのみがrolling admission（早く出願した方から随時審査を行う制度）を採用しております。また、CBSはJanuaryとAugustと年に２回のプログラム開始時期があり、それぞれのプログラムに特徴があります。応募者は自分に最適なプログラムを選ぶことができます。そしてAugust intakeのみEarly Decision(Early)と呼ばれるCBS第一志望者むけの出願締切が設定されています。

CBS出願にむけては、エッセイをはじめとした応募書類の準備に加えて、上述の点を考慮した出願プランを検討することが必要です。
