9月からPersonal Statementの執筆に取り組むために、Resume の作成を通して自分の強み（アピールポイント）は整理できていますか？このレジュメをもとにPersonal statementやLetter of recommendationで言及する実例を選定しましょう。

Personal Statement (Stanford LL.M.):2-3 pages

パーソナルステートメントに着手する前に、まずは以下の項目に対して該当する内容を書き纏めてみましょう。

1) Experience in legal practice
2) Interest in LL.M. in the applicable specialization
3) Post LL.M. goals
4) How the Stanford LL.M. program could benefit your career progress

その纏めたコンテンツを所定のページ数で収めるためにも、アウトラインや段落ごとの字数も考えなければなりません。

 Two letters of recommendation (Stanford LL.M.)

It is suggested that LLM applicants obtain one letter from someone familiar with their work in legal practice (or related professional experience) and one letter from someone familiar with their academic work. At least one letter should be from someone with whom the applicant has worked who can address the applicant’s English-language proficiency.

UC Berkeley LL.M. (Traditional Track含)の出願締切日12/18が発表になりました。

今月末から来月の初旬にかけて、その他のプログラムにおいても出願要綱が続々と発表されます。それに伴い、各校の学校説明会、さらにはLSAC主催のLL.M.出願関連イベントが開催されるようになります。

出願締切日から逆算してタスクを整理しましょう

この先の書類準備を円滑に進めるためには、今月８月末までにはレジュメを仕上げることをお勧めします。そして9月からパーソナルステートメントの執筆へ注力できるように計画を図ることで、心理面にも余裕が生まれ、よりクオリティーの高い書類へと仕上げるため推敲用の時間も確保できるようになります。また、必要に応じてテストスコアの底上げにも時間を充てることができます。

Harvard Law School : 2023年入学向けLLM出願締め切り日発表！

早くもHarvard Law School (HLS)は2023年秋入学向けLLMプログラムの出願締め切り日 (12月1日 東部時間 午後11:59分)を発表しました。出願手続きなどの詳細は、以下サイトでご確認ください。

当校の過去のHLS合格者の状況を分析すると、総合、セクション別のTOEFLスコアのバランスがとれていること、さらには学業成績も含めて申し分ないものでした。さらにTOEFLスコアと成績だけが合格を保証するものではありませんので、世界中のアプリカントとの差別化を図るためには、レジュメ、パーソナルステートメント、願書、推薦状のコンテンツ強化も必要です。

Questions to consider when developing an MBA resume

If you are starting the 2019-2020 MBA application process, then you are most likely preparing to take your GMATS and if you are an international student, the TOEFL exam. In addition, you probably are also starting to prepare your resume.
A resume, very often limited to one or two pages, summarizes your professional background, skills, and education. The fundamental principles of resume writing have not changed for generations; if you are getting ready for the application process or even your next career move, keep these rules in mind as you create and write your resume.

1. Cover the basics
The resume’s objective to represent your relevant skills and accomplishments. Therefore, every resume must include:
Relevant educational degrees and certifications
Relevant work or volunteer experiences
Contact information
Relevant skills and level of mastery (Fluent in Spanish; conversational French)

In addition, use an easy to read font and font size which is usually between 10-12 points. Complex or small font size will made your resume difficult to read.

2. Use as few words as possible
The Admission Officers will spend only a few minutes on your resume so make every word count. Avoid words like “a,” “an,” “the,” “such as” and “etc.”

3. Quantify your accomplishments wherever possible
Admissions Officers are looking for the impact you have made on the organization in your particular role. Numbers and data bring your experience to life, boost your credibility and adds detail to your resume.

4. Use action verbs
It is important to avoid passive verbs and business jargon or clichés such as “bottom line” or “move the needle.” Additionally, avoid tired words and phrases because poor word choice will undermine the strength and effectiveness of your resume. Instead, use powerful action verbs and avoid overusing the same verbs (such as “assisted,” “oversaw,” and “utilized.”) Using plain, clear language that explains how you’ve delivered value is much more effective.
TIP: Combine your action verbs with quantifiable results to demonstrate both what you did and the impact it had.

■説明会参加前の準備と、説明会後のフォローの重要性

人気校であるほど、参加者数が多いので、受身な姿勢で説明会に参加すると、新しい情報を得ることができずに終わってしまうことがあります。また、プレゼンター側の方も自分の質問だけになかなかフォーカスしてくれないというのも実状です。だから事前準備と説明会後のフォローが重要になるのです。

◇事前準備について

①自分を知ってもらうために自分の経歴を整理し、Resume作成を開始する

相手に印象付けるためには、自分の学歴/職歴のハイライトを記すResumeの準備を開始することです。また、皆さんがResume準備を通じて、自身の経歴を整理し始めるということは、その後の出願プロセスで必要となるエッセイ作成の下準備にもつながります。

②基本的な情報は事前に調査する

トップスクールであればあるほど、豊富な情報をweb上で提供しています。授業の取り方、提供コース、卒業生のキャリア情報、入学審査情報はすべて公開されています。こういった基本情報そのものを学校説明会で質問することは推奨でません。

在校生による非公式サイトを活用する　在校生の視点でクラスの情報を分かりやすく提供しています

③効果的な質問を用意する

原則1：あなたの質問は、自分の合格の可能性を高める質問になっているか
原則2：抽象的な質問を避けること

よくない質問例：評論家の視点が強い質問

あなたの学校は日本からの出願者に何を期待しますか？
→あなたの特徴は日本人というカテゴリーしかないのでしょうか？この質問はあなたの出願書類を高めるうえでどう役立ちますか？

A校とあなたの学校の違いを教えてください
→学校が関心があるのは、あなたがうちの学校で何を得たいか？です。こういった質問からは、あなたがその学校に強く興味があるという印象を与えません。

良い質問例：主語を常に私に置いた具体的な質問

私はあなたのXというコンサルティングプロジェクトに興味があります。特に、私はA業界に関わるプロジェクトに入りたいのですが、
学生の希望は専攻にどの程度考慮されるのですか？
→相手には、あなたが何に興味があるのかがクリアに伝わり、学校への意欲を感じることができます。

原則3：正しい相手に質問をすること

当たり前のことではありますが、意識しておくことが重要です。

入学審査官は、在校生ではなく、教授ではないので、コースの詳細を述べることを得意としていません。
卒業生は入学審査官ではないので、入試情報について最新情報を提供する方ではありません

◇参加後のフォロー

説明会で交流することができた方に、その方とのコミュニケーションの中で新たに得ることができた情報から、学校に対して共感した点とお礼を述べましょう。
その上で、その後個別にコミュニケーションを開始する体制を整えることが重要です。

説明会に参加いただく在校生や卒業生の方は、皆さんが想像する以上に協力的です。そういった方とネットワーキングを図ることは、その学校の在学時だけではなく卒業後もつながるコミュニティの様子を理解することにつながります。このプロセスの継続が、その学校のコミュニティの持つカルチャーを理解できることにつながります。

Questions to consider when developing an MBA resume

An HR professional or Admissions Officer will spend no more than 60 seconds looking through your resume. It is therefore important that your resume be strategically and structurally composed to showcase your skills and maximize impact to the reader.

Think of the resume as a marketing tool for your personal brand that is used to entice AND engage the reader and a means for differentiating you from the competition.

To distinguish yourself, start by asking yourself and thinking through the following:

1. What one or two words best describe you?

2. What kind of leadership skills have you demonstrated and how were they measured?

3. Are you a good listener? Are you articulate? Are you comfortable expressing your opinion in a group setting?

4. What makes you different from the competition? Do you have bi-lingual capabilities? What certifications do you have?
